Mirage: A Colorado River Adventure Podcast
Mirage is a story about water and delusion that has gone on for 200 years.
I know this first hand: I grew up out in Utah where drought and lack of water was an open secret.
When I was 6 years old, my dad sat me down and told me we needed to save water because we’re in a drought.
Flash forward 30 years later and nothing has changed. The Colorado river is drying up.
It’s one of the most controlled, litigated and regulated rivers in the world. 40 million people depend on this river for water. And I think it’s a canary in the coal mine for the fate of our earth.
It will take drastic action to prevent a future where people turn on their taps and no water comes out.
Yet why aren’t doing anything about it?
To answer this question, I knew I needed to do a very American thing: I hopped in a boat with my friend, audio producer Abigail Keel, to explore all 1,500 miles of Colorado River in search of adventure, connection, and answers about the future of water in the West.
